Despite challenges such as floods, pandemics, and economic downturns, the facility has stood resilient, consistently rising to the occasion and emerging stronger. The iconic design of our building, and the dynamic activity that takes place within, has positioned the Centre to be a recognized leader in sport training, competition, and recreation. Throughout its history, the Centre has expertly balanced the needs of all customers while proactively expanding programs and services to support an ever-growing audience.
2023 continued this legacy of excellence with several notable achievements:
-
We secured complete funding for the Leisure Water Expansion Project (LEAP).
-
We executed a new 25-year Lease & Operating Agreement with the City of Calgary.
-
We launched a formal volunteer program, engaging 66 individuals who contributed over 3,800 hours, with many transitioning to full-time and part-time roles.
-
We introduced a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) statement—"Our passion for sport, people, and community includes everyone!"—and detailed our commitment with additional subtext.
-
We supported Calgary's successful bid to host the 2027 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG).
-
We became the official training center for the Calgary Surge CEBL basketball team.
-
We concluded the year in a strong financial position.
As we move into 2024, we anticipate new challenges and opportunities. With the continued dedication of our staff and Board, we are confident in our ability to adapt and thrive, just as we have over the past four decades.

MESSAGE FROM THE CEO& BOARD CHAIR
Celebrating 40 Years of Excellence at MNP Community & Sport Centre
2023 marked a significant milestone—the 40th anniversary of the MNP Community & Sport Centre and the Lindsay Park Sports Society Board of Governors. Founded on the visionary ideas of the late John Currie, the Centre was initially conceived as a crucial facility for indoor sport training, competition, and recreation. The early vision, coupled with the relentless efforts of dedicated Calgarians, led to the opening of our facility in 1983, as the main venue for the Western Canada Summer Games. Since then, The Centre has proudly welcomed approximately 1.5 million visitors annually, hosted over 50 local, national, and international events each year, and served as home to 32 sports partners, four tenants, and hundreds of committed employees.
